Living with neurodegenerative diseases like Multiple Sclerosis (MS) presents many challenges. Finding effective ways to manage symptoms and improve quality of life is essential. That’s why the upcoming Learning, Teaching, and Training (LTT) activity in Istanbul, Turkey, scheduled for June 28 July 3, 2026, is so important. This event brings together people living with neurodegenerative diseases and specialists to test and improve the TechAndEdu-TEA e-learning platform. The goal is to create a tool that truly supports those affected by these conditions.

In this post, I will share an overview of the LTT activity, explain who will participate, and describe how this event will help improve care and education for people with neurodegenerative diseases.

What the LTT Activity in Istanbul Involved

The LTT event took place over seven days, including two travel days and five days of focused educational activities. It was held in accessible ground-floor facilities, ensuring that all participants could take part comfortably.

Participants

Eighteen people attended the activity, with six representatives from each partner country. Each national group included:

  • Four adults diagnosed with neurodegenerative diseases, such as multiple sclerosis.

  • Two specialists from medical or related fields.

This combination ensured that both lived experience and professional expertise contributed to the testing and development of the project’s digital platform.

Program Highlights

The programme covered several key areas related to the management of neurodegenerative diseases.

  • Day 1: Introduction and Unfreezing

Participants got to know one another through interactive ice-breaking and team-building sessions. They reviewed the project results and explored the e-learning platform, with particular attention to its accessibility and usability.

The educational programme began with a workshop on techniques and strategies that could help slow the neurodegenerative process and support people living with multiple sclerosis.

  • Day 2: Mental Health Focus

The group continued testing the platform, particularly its assessment and evaluation features. Participants provided feedback on the clarity, accessibility and usefulness of the available materials.

A workshop was also organised on activities and strategies for maintaining mental health hygiene, which represented an important aspect of living with a chronic neurological condition.

  • Day 3: Physical Therapy

The third day included discussions, demonstrations and practical exercises related to physiotherapy and physical activities for people with neurological impairments.

Participants learned about approaches that could help maintain mobility, independence and physical well-being. A city tour also gave the group an opportunity to relax, socialise and experience Istanbul’s cultural and historical atmosphere.

  • Day 4: Nutritional Well-being

The fourth day focused on the importance of nutrition in managing symptoms and supporting general well-being.

Participants learned about the possible effects of diet on neurodegenerative conditions and worked on developing personal nutrition plans based on individual needs and healthy eating principles.

The day concluded with a cultural evening that celebrated the diversity of the participating countries and strengthened relationships among the participants.

  • Day 5: Coping Strategies and Conclusion

The final workshop focused on managing difficult moments following diagnosis, developing coping strategies and planning for the future.

Participants discussed emotional resilience, access to support services and practical ways of adapting to changes caused by neurodegenerative conditions.

The LTT activity concluded with a closing celebration and certificate distribution, recognising the participation, commitment and contributions of everyone involved.

Who Benefited from the LTT Activity

The LTT activity was designed for two main target groups.

People with Neurodegenerative Diseases

Participants from this group were expected to:

  • Speak conversational English to communicate effectively.

  • Have at least secondary education to understand complex materials.

  • Show team spirit and good collaboration skills.

  • Commit to sharing project learnings and volunteering for at least 24 months after the project ends.

These participants gained practical knowledge about managing their conditions and discovered new strategies for coping with physical, emotional and social challenges.

They also became part of an international support network that continued beyond the training activity.

Medical and Related Specialists

The participating professionals were expected to:

  • Hold advanced degrees in relevant fields.

  • Have experience working with adults with neurodegenerative diseases.

  • Be proficient in English, including medical terminology.

  • Be willing to engage in international exchanges and build partnerships.

  • Commit to ongoing dissemination and support during the project’s sustainability phase.

The specialists improved their professional knowledge through international cooperation and exposure to new approaches.

Their expertise and feedback contributed to the development of a more effective and person-centred care framework that could benefit people living with neurodegenerative conditions at both local and European levels.

How the LTT Activity Supported the Project Goals

The Istanbul LTT event represented an important step in achieving the objectives of the TechAndEdu-TEA project.

Testing and Validating the E-learning Platform

Participants used the platform directly and assessed its functionality, accessibility, content and overall user experience.

This practical testing helped determine whether the platform responded effectively to the needs of people living with neurodegenerative diseases.

Participant feedback also helped identify issues related to navigation, accessibility, content clarity and ease of use.

Enhancing Accessibility and User Impact

The activity placed particular emphasis on making the platform accessible to people with different physical, cognitive and technological needs.

Feedback from participants guided further improvements and helped make the platform more inclusive, practical and effective.

By involving people living with neurodegenerative diseases directly in the evaluation process, the project ensured that the platform was developed according to real needs rather than assumptions.

Why the Activity Was Important for People with MS and Their Care Teams

Living with multiple sclerosis or a similar neurodegenerative condition involved daily challenges affecting physical, mental, emotional and social well-being.

Digital tools such as the TechAndEdu-TEA platform provided valuable opportunities for education, self-management and access to reliable support materials.

By involving both people living with neurodegenerative diseases and specialists in the development process, the platform became more relevant, accessible and practical.

For example, the workshops on physical therapy and nutrition provided recommendations that participants could apply in their daily lives.

The sessions on mental health highlighted the importance of emotional well-being, resilience and self-care, which were sometimes overlooked despite being essential aspects of managing a chronic condition.

Recommended Resources for Managing Neurodegenerative Diseases

Alongside the TechAndEdu-TEA platform, participants were introduced to examples of additional digital and educational resources that could support people living with neurological conditions.

  • NeuroWellness App

The NeuroWellness App was presented as an example of a mobile tool designed to support mental health and physical activity among people living with neurological conditions.

It offered personalised plans, activity reminders and tools that helped users follow their health and well-being routines.

  • MS Nutrition Guide

The MS Nutrition Guide was presented as an example of an online resource offering tailored nutritional information for people living with multiple sclerosis.

It included meal-planning ideas, recipes and recommendations intended to support healthy eating and symptom management.

These resources complemented the educational content of the TechAndEdu-TEA platform and demonstrated how digital tools could contribute to a more holistic approach to care.

These tools complement the educational content of TechAndEdu-TEA and can be used alongside it for a holistic approach.

Looking Ahead: The Impact of the LTT Activity

The LTT event in Istanbul was more than a training activity. It created an opportunity to build a community of people and professionals committed to improving the quality of life of individuals living with neurodegenerative diseases.

The knowledge, experiences and feedback gathered during the event contributed to the further development of the TechAndEdu-TEA platform.

The activity helped transform the platform into a resource that more effectively reflected the needs of its users.

Through their participation, individuals contributed to a European initiative that aimed to support adults living with multiple sclerosis and similar conditions.

I look forward to seeing how this project evolves and the positive impact it will have on many lives.
